Prof. Dlawer Ala’Aldeen
Professor of Clinical Microbiology & Head of Molecular Bacteriology and Immunology. University of Nottingham. He has published widely, been involved with the Health Protection Agency and has a great interest in the Middle East.
Professor Peter Blain
Professor of Environmental Medicine and a Consultant Physician (Clinical Toxicology) at Newcastle University and the Newcastle Hospitals NHS Trust, and Director of the Medical Toxicology Research Centre, a joint facility of Newcastle University and the Health Protection Agency (HPA). He is also Head of Medical Toxicology and leads on CBRN Research in the HPA and provides expert advice to Government on CBRN issues. He was made a CBE in 2002.
Mr Karim Brohi
Karim is a Consultant Trauma & Vascular Surgeon at the Barts and London NHS Trust. He trained in trauma surgery at a number of overseas centres and has recently developed an interest in hospital surge capacity, a subject on which he has recently published after the 2005 London bombings.
Lt. Col Mark Byers
Mark has extensive experience of military medicine and has developed an interest in Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear incidents. He is currently working with the Health Protection Agency.
Prof. Pierre Carli
Professor Carli is head of the SAMU (Paris ambulance service) at the Necker Hospital in Paris France. He is a world leader in pre-hospital care, resuscitation and emergency preparedness. He has published and lectured worldwide on all of these subjects.
Dr. Gareth Davies
Gareth is a Consultant Emergency Physician and Medical Director of London’s Helicopter Emergency Medical Service. He has an interest in major incident preparedness and management and has extensive experience as Medical Commander at major incidents in London.
Prof. Tim Hodgetts
Hon Professor of Emergency Medicine and Trauma, University of Birmingham & Defence Consultant Advisor in Emergency Medicine, Royal Centre for Defence Medicine Birmingham. Tim has led the establishment of the speciality of Military Emergency Medicine in the UK. He has also established the MIMMS course as the standard in major incident management. He has published widely in Emergency Medicine and trauma and is the author of many texts.
Dr Bob Jefferson
Consultant in Environmental Medicine at Newcastle University and Deputy Director of the Medical Toxicology Research Centre. He is an accredited specialist in Occupational Medicine. His main interests are in chemical and radiation exposures. He has also lived and worked in Japan as a research fellow at the Radiation Effects Research Foundation in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Prof. Yoram Kluger
Professor Kluger is Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Rambam Medical Centre, Israel. He is recognised as an expert in the surgery of trauma and has extensive experience of the treatment of injuries related to conflict and terrorism.
Prof. Justin Lewis
Justin Lewis is Professor of Communication and Deputy Head of the Cardiff School of Journalism, Media and Cultural studies. He worked for 12 years at the University of Massachusetts. He has written widely about media, culture and politics. He has written articles for many national newspapers and is a regular commentator on media, politics and cultural issues for regional and national US and UK media.
Prof. Kevin Mackaway-Jones
Prof. Mackaway-Jones is Professor of Emergency Medicine at Manchester University. He has been a strong influence in medical education and training for medical major incident management. He has published extensively and lectured worldwide.
Prof. Bill McGuire
Bill McGuire is the Benfield Professor of Geohazards and Director of the Benfield Hazard Research Centre. He is author or editor of over 300 books, papers and articles focusing on natural hazards, volcanic hazards, climate change and global geophysical events. He is on the editorial boards of three journals: Disasters, Acta Vulcanologica and Volcanology & Seismology. Bill is also a member of the Natural Hazards Working Group established by the UK Government in January 2005, in the wake of the Indian Ocean tsunami, to work towards an Intergovernmental Science Panel on Extreme Hazards.
Prof. Virginia Murray
Prof Murray is professor of Clinical Toxicology at Guys Hospital Poisons unit. She has extensive experience of preparation and management of chemical incidents and has been an expert advisor to government and academic bodies on chemical incidents and a wide range of toxicological issues.
Prof. John Oxford
John Oxford is Scientific Director of Retroscreen Virology Ltd and Professor of Virology at St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London Hospital, Queen Mary’s School of Medicine and Dentistry. He has co-authored two standard texts: ‘Influenza, the Viruses and the Disease with Sir Charles Stuart-Harris and G.C. Schild and most recently "Human Virology, a Text for Students of Medicine, Dentistry and Microbiology" published by Oxford University Press.
Superintendent Philip Trendall
Superintendent Trendall works for the British Transport Police and has developed an interest and expertise in major incident management particularly on the rail network.
Dr. Anne Weaver
Anne is a Consultant in Emergency Medicine & Pre-hospital Care in London. She has personal experience of Major Incidents and an interest in emergency preparedness.
